About the Founder

Polish-American pianist, composer, and conductor Peter Papiewski was a prize winner of local and national piano competitions both in his native Poland, and in the United States. He began formal piano education at the age of 5. Firstly, at the “Ognisko Muzyczne” in Orzysz, and from the age of 9 at the Szeligowski National Music School in Lublin, Poland. After graduating, he was accepted to the Karol Lipinski Conservatory of Music in Poland to study with Prof. Wlodzimierz Obidowicz. While studying there he received a full scholarship to study at the Manhattan School of Music where, consequently, he received his Bachelor's Degree in Piano Performance with Prof. Constance Keene. Later he continued his studies in Poland and received Masters's Degree (MM) in Piano Performance at the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Poland under the guidance of Prof. Katarzyna Popowa-Zydron.

He was awarded First Prize at the 1997 “Chopin Foundation Competition” in New York City and was the "Artist Grant Recipient" from the Clarisse B. Kampel Foundation. In his native Poland, Peter has been featured in radio and television broadcasts and recorded works of Brahms and Scarlatti for the National Polish Archives. For years Peter served as a piano faculty member at The French American Music Conservatory in New York. An avid singer Peter performed in most of the European countries as a member of the Lublin Cathedral Choir. He enjoys spending his free time with his family and friends.

Piano Pedagogy

Peter’s teaching career began nearly 27 years ago. Hundreds of his students throughout Long Island participated in NYSSMA festivals, ABRSM, and National Piano Guild tests. Peter’s students were accepted to the Manhattan School of Music and the Juilliard School prep divisions and placed in the finals of local and national piano competitions. His style of teaching evolved from both Polish and Russian methodologies combined with a genuine interest in music and arts and of course a bit of musical humor. He has studied piano pedagogy and composition with Paul Sheftel.
